North Alabama Soccer Coalition

NASC SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL: JUNE 2024

The NASC Summer Soccer School Program is a series of 3-day camps geared toward helping players in North Alabama gain an in-depth knowledge of the four positions: Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, and Forward/Striker. Whereas most 1v1 skill training programs or soccer camps focus on a variety of different aspects of the game, this special program will take it a step further by focusing on key player positions on the field from a technical and tactical functional view. The players will learn the positional roles and the major technical and functional needs of players in those positions. The program schedule supports parent drop-off on the way to work and pick-up during lunch breaks.

Part of the first day of camp, players will be evaluated and grouped according to their age and where they are in their development. The focus is to make sure that each player is challenged at their developmental level to ensure each player improves at the most optimal level throughout the program.

Soccer school includes a speed and fitness development component at no additional cost. The fitness/speed development component will focus on helping players stay soccer fit throughout the summer. Among many other areas of focus, the program will focus on improving a player’s speed, quickness, agility, and overall body strength/injury prevention.

SKILL CAMP

DEFENDER CAMP

MIDFIELDER CAMP

STRIKER + GK CAMP

Each session will focus on skill development/training and small group activities. Players will learn soccer skills and techniques through game related activities. We want out campers to learn how to apply these skills in real game situations.

Players will learn all aspects of being an elite defender. Among many other aspects of defending, there will be a huge focus on individual defending, group defending, and the role of defenders when their team is in possession of the ball.

Players will gain an in-depth understanding of what it takes play in midfield: position numbers 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11 (also known as the defensive mid, attacking mid, play maker, and winger positions). Among many other aspects, there will be a huge focus on helping improve the player’s ability to be great passers of the ball, to be better decision makers, to improve their vision on the field, and to be greater crosser of the ball.

Field Players will learn the art of scoring goals. Players will get the chance to learn how to score goals with all surfaces of their feet and other body parts. Among many other aspects to being a great scorer, there will be a huge focus on helping players understand the difference between shooting and finishing, finishing and shooting techniques, the ability to play with the player’s back to the goal, proper runs into and around the box, the ability to combine or get around defenders in order to score goals, and developing that scorer’s mentality.

Goalkeepers will be offered special topics such as shot stopping, dealing with crosses, and dealing with breakaways.
