North Alabama SC is excited to announce that Nicolas Bermudez has joined North Alabama SC as the 16U-19U Boys and Girls Assistant Director of Coaching (ADOC).

“Coach Nicolas has enjoyed success as a player at the youth, college, and pre-professional levels and as a coach. His experience, perspective, and knowledge of the game will have an immediate and positive impact on our club, players, and our North Alabama soccer community. Coach Nicolas is a great addition to our coaching leadership team.,” said North Alabama SC DOC Henry Mpagi.

Nicolas is a native of Madrid, Spain. Nicolas spent his youth soccer career playing for top tier clubs in Madrid like C.F. Pozuelo de Alarcon and Rayo Majadahonda C.F. At Rayo, he played in the prestigious Division de Honor League – 1^st Division for 18U players. Playing in the Division de Honor League allowed Nicolas to play against professional clubs such as Real Madrid C.F., Atletico Madrid, and Rayo Vallecano.

Nicolas first came to the U.S. in 2008, when he began his collegiate career at Division I Towson University. After graduating college in 2012, Nicolas played for the Real Maryland Monarchs in the Premier Development League (PDL) – now USL League Two (USL2) – and started his coaching career.

Over the last 10-years, Nicolas has coached for some of the top clubs in the D.C. area of Maryland and Virginia - Pipeline SC, Potomac SA, and most recently the Barca Academy. He also coached in the Maryland Olympic Development Program (ODP) and at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.

Since relocating to Huntsville in the Fall of 2020, Nicolas has been named the Head Coach for the James Clemens High School JV Boys team for the 2021 season.

When asked how he determines coaching success, Nicolas said “For me, to be a successful coach is to know that I helped a player develop to succeed, not just in soccer, but in life.”

Nicolas currently holds a USSF “C” License, UEFA “C” License from the Spanish Royal Federation, and a Football Technical Analyst Certification from FC Barcelona.

A few fun facts about our new coach. Nicolas prefers to be called Coach Nico. His favorite coach is Pep Guardiola and his favorite player is Xavi Hernandez (now retired).
